This year, Toronto is hosting a groundbreaking and unique event: we are talking about Italian Football Heroes, a 7 vs 7 football match featuring former players of the Italian National Team versus a selection of Canadian National All Stars. The event will be sponsored by the AIC, the Italian Football Players Associations, and the ICCO, the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario: there is a thriving Italian community in Toronto, meaning that this event will also be an unforgettable moment of social aggregation and national pride for them, allowing Italian Canadians to rediscover their roots and learn more about the country of their ancestors.
The Italian Legends Team will be led by Alex Del Piero, who played in the Italian National Team at three World Cups, while the Ambassador of the event will be Paolo Rossi, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1982 and was Top Scorer in the World Cup in the same year. Among the players there will be legends like Dino Baggio, Schillaci and Perrotta, making an extraordinary and unforgettable team. The Canadian team will be led by Paul Stalteri, who is also Italian Canadian and also a player in the Canadian National Team, scoring 7 goals during his 84 appearances.
Before the game there will also be a match between two youth teams, one from Ontario’s Paolo Rossi Academy and one from Toronto Azzurri Soccer club.
In addition to the matches, the Italian artist Pupo will perform in an unique show, featuring live music, interviews, games with the public and much more. There will also be an official Meet and Greet session before the game, which will require separate tickets, and an Official Gala Dinner which will be held some days before the main event.
