Winterlicious is a culinary festival held in Toronto every year; it first started in 2003, with 35 restaurants participating, together with its twin festival Summerlicious. The festival aims to promote restaurant attendance during the times of the year where it suffers the most, like February for Winterlicious and July for Summerlicious. The festival is very popular: during Winterlicious 2009 , for example, 180.000 meals were served over the course of two weeks.
The 2016 edition took place between January 29th and February 11th. More than 200 restaurants chose to participate in this festival, organized by the City of Toronto; they offered three-course meals at a fixed price, going from 18$-28$ for lunches and 25$-45$ for dinners, allowing people to experience different cuisines from all over the world, enjoying a fantastic dining experience that was met with delight even by the most demanding foodies.
The tickets for each culinary event, which did not include drinks, taxes and gratuity, had to be purchased in advance from each producer; the events included cuisines from all over the world, ranging from Thai Cuisine to English traditional meals. There were also special events, like the one focused on Pasta Making with Chef Saverio Macri and the Demonstration of Charcuterie and Curing held by Rosewater, were guests were given recipes and taught how to do their own curing at home.
The festival also enjoyed a lot of attention in social media: for example, blogTO organized a photo challenge, encouraging people who had attended Winterlicious to post pictures of their meals, offering gift certificates from various restaurants as a prize. Many blogs and websites also reviewed the menus and the restaurants, ranking them and offering advice about the best ones.
